This wine shows good colour in the glass. It has a deep core and the rim is ruby red with purple tints. The nose exhibits very typical Waiheke characters. There is cassis and plum along with some fruitcake and porty overtones that come from super-ripe fruit. The oak is obvious, but subtle and attractive. The wine shows good weight on the palate. The tannins are bountiful, but very fine grained. There is a real sweetness of fruit in the mid palate and this leads to a long and lingering finish. (Winemaker's notes July 2004
